PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The client, Goldcrest Films, needed a fully isolated sound mixing theatre in Central London. The solution was to excavate two floors of basement from underneath their existing 1950’s office building in Soho. The engineering challenge was to excavate under the brick walls of the existing building while going down 10 metres below ground level and also keep the 5-storey office building above operational. SDS re-engineered the basement design and introduced a kingpost-supported excavation technique that allowed temporary and permanent works to be completed concurrently.
